EDE is a proprietary software technology that allows customers of National Retirement Services, Inc. to submit their
end of year data to NRS electronically.
What does EDE stand for?
EDE stands for Easy Data Entry.
What is the current version of EDE?
The current version of EDE is 6.01.12.
How do I start EDE?
Click Start => Programs = > EDE => Ede
OR Click Start => Run. In the run box type C:\EDE\ede.exe
Why should my company use EDE?
EDE is the fastest and most efficient way of sending National Retirement Services, Inc. your end of year data. It also allows you to maintain and use the same employee information from year to year without having to re-enter the employee information.
What does EDE cost?
EDE is free of charge to all National Retirement Services, Inc.
customers. For more information, please contact EDE Technical Support.
How do I get EDE?
EDE is sent to all customers based on
their plan year end. This is done automatically
by National Retirement Services, Inc., so
nothing has to be done by you.
All customers can receive the complete program
populated with their current information
upon request. If you would like the complete
program, please contact EDE Technical Support. National Retirement Services, Inc. does not provide a full downloadable version of EDE at this time.
What if my EDE version is prior to 6.01.12?
If you are using EDE version 5.01.06 or previous versions, you must update to version 6.01.12.
What password do I use to gain access to EDE?
If prompted for a password to gain access to EDE, in the password box type "viewall" (without the " ").
Where is the backup files for EDE stored?
The backup files are stored under the C:\EDE\Backup directory.

- The TPA report was changed to legal size and columns added for Severance Pay, Post-Employment Compensation, Date Post-Employment Compenation Paid, and Safe Harbor 3% contributions.
- The match column was change to be either Safe Harbor or regular discretionary match.
- The database grid was changed to include Safe Harbor or regular discretionary match.
- A pop-up window was added when EDE starts with the Help file for review.
- A new Help file has been added with better instructions explaining how to enter compensation and employee census data.
- Terminees entered for the prior year during the current year will now be exported with the cen and fin files.
- Division codes can now be input and used by the user .
- Removed termination reason 01 Leave of Absence and 08 Worker's compensation leave. If an old employee has this code it will remain, but it will not be available for new employees.
- The EDE database has been renamed.
Warning Error #5328 - This occurs in EDE versions 4.01.07 and prior when trying to add a date range or change a date range to a 2006 plan year end. The error will present itself as "Warning Error #5328: Invalid Date: The date is prior to 01/01/1900 or greater than 01/01/2010". To correct this error, install the latest version of the EDE.
Version Conflict - This occurs when the Microsoft setup is trying to copy a file that is older than is
presently on the system. To resolve this conflict, click the Yes button when this error is presented during
setup. This will keep the existing file that is currently on the system. This error may occur several times
during setup.
File Registration Errors - This error occurs when the Microsoft setup encountered
errors when trying to register system files. The error will present itself as "An error occurred while registering
the file C:\WINNT\System32\xxxxxxxx.xxx" To resolve this error, click the Ignore button to continue setup. EDE setup
will continue as normal. You will be given the "EDE setup completed successfully" message. Please note that this error
will not affect the functionality of EDE.
File Access Violation Errors - This error occurs when the Microsoft setup encountered
errors when trying to copy system files that are in use by the operating system. To resolve this error, click the Ignore
button to continue setup. EDE setup will continue as normal. You will be given the "EDE setup completed successfully" message. Please note that this error
will not affect the functionality of EDE.
Runtime Error 339 - When this error is generated it is usually accompanied by the following message: "Component xxxxx.ocx or one of it's dependants is not correctly registered. A file is missing or invalid." This error message is caused by copying the root EDE folder from the originally installed location to a new location that has never had EDE installed. To correct this error, reinstall EDE from the original installation disk. If you do not have the original installation disk, please contact EDE Technical Support.
Runtime Error 3021 - This error is generated in earlier releases of EDE when a user tries to input census information into an empty EDE database. To correct this error, update to the most current version of EDE here.
Runtime Error 3024 - This error is caused by copying the EDE directory to a PC that does not have a previous version of EDE installed. To correct this runtime error please contact EDE Technical Support to request the full 6.01.12 installation of EDE.
Runtime Error 3265 -
This error is caused in EDE version 5.01.03 when a database is created with no census records. To correct this error, contact EDE Technical Support to request the full 6.01.12 installation of EDE.
Runtime Error 3633 - This error is caused by a Microsoft Access Jet conflict. EDE utilizes Access 2000 as the storage medium for client data. If a user has previous versions of Microsoft Access installed, this will cause EDE to behave erratically and generate the Runtime 3633 error. If you are presented with this error, please submit your year end information to National Retirement Services, Inc. in electronic spreadsheet form. If you need assistance, please contact EDE Technical Support.
Backing Up EDE Data:
1. Start the EDE application by clicking Start => Programs => EDE => EDE
2. Click the File menu
3. Select Backup Data...
4. Accept the default file name. This will always be the current date with an .EDE extension (for example 11172006.EDE)
5. Click the OK button to start backup
6. Click the OK button on the Backup Complete dialogue box
Restoring EDE Data:
1. Start the EDE application by clicking Start => Programs => EDE => EDE
2. Click the File menu
3. Select Restore Data...
4. Click the Continue with Restore button
*Please be aware that by clicking the Continue with Restore button, you will be over writing any current data that is in the EDE system. Only do the restore if you are positive you want to restore older data to the system.
5. On the right side of the Restore EDE Data screen, double click the EDE directory
6. On the left side of the Restore EDE Data screen, click the backup file that you want to restore.
7. Click the OK button
8. Click the OK button on the Restore Complete dialogue box
1. Insert the EDE v6.01 CD into the CD ROM drive
2. Click Start => Run
3. In the Run box, type D:\Setup.exe (sometimes the CD ROM drive has the drive letter E:\)
4. Installation will begin
5. The Easy Data Entry Setup screen will appear
6. Click the OK button
7. The Easy Data Entry - Choose Program Group window will appear
8. Click the
Continue button to proceed (leave EDE as the default program group)
9. Setup will begin to copy files to your hard drive (this can take several minutes)
10. Click the OK button
to complete the setup
